How to choose the right cold plunge spot

  • Private or social?

Communal bathhouse floors are louder, longer, and usually cheaper. Private suites give you a clock and a closed door. Pick the format before the neighborhood.

  • Do you want sauna too?

Finnish rooms, infrared suites, and spa floors all show up here. The heat side changes the session as much as the tub temperature.

  • Location

Winter changes the commute. Pick the neighborhood you will still get to in February.

  • Pricing

Communal floors often undercut private suites by a wide margin. Scan From prices, then confirm day passes and packs on the studio page.

Common questions

Can I just go in the lake instead?

People do, and it is free. It is also unsupervised and the temperature is whatever the lake says. These listings are the ones you can book with a known tub.

How much does a cold plunge cost in Chicago?

Communal bathhouse floors are generally the cheapest way in. Private suites cost more for the locked hour. Each card shows a From price from published adult drop-ins. Confirm packs on the studio page.

Do I need to book or can I walk in?

Private suites are booked by the slot. Communal floors are more flexible outside peak evenings. Check the listing before you cross town in February.

Cold plunge or cold shower: what is the difference?

Immersion in a held-temperature tub is a different session from a cold shower. We filter this page to real plunges. The cold plunge vs cold shower guide explains the gap.

Is a home cold plunge worth it in Chicago?

If winter plunging is already a habit, owning the tub cuts the commute. Start with home cold plunges, then read home cold plunge vs studio membership for the math.

Do Chicago cold plunge studios have saunas?

Most do, from big Finnish rooms to private infrared. The chips on each card list what is actually on site so you are not surprised mid session.

Looking for the other half of the session? See infrared sauna in Chicago , or the full Chicago directory .

Doing it at home?

If you are plunging through a Chicago winter anyway, owning the tub removes the commute. We keep dated prices on home cold plunges worth considering. Compare home cold plunges on published prices, or read what we worked out on a home plunge vs a studio membership. Also see Plunge vs Ice Barrel and home sauna vs cold plunge.
